with oats, dates and coconut

Oh the habit of eating your ‘10-uurtje’ here in Belgium as a kid on the playground... It really stuck with me. At work I find myself subconsciously waiting for the clock to hit 10 o’clock and bam, suddenly I can’t contain myself any longer and I HAVE to eat something sweet.

A while ago I read ‘GUT’ from Julia Enders (have a read, it’s very informative and yet super funny). I always thought that the rumbling sound my stomach made around that time of the day the signal was of me needing food, and quick! In her book Julia explains that it’s not you being hungry: your stomach is empty, yes, but the sound is actually your stomach cleaning itself between meals.

Since I’ve read that, It totally changed my perspective and the rumbling my stomach makes sounds kind-off satisfying now.

Even better: I can often pass on the snack.

Giving my stomach some rest before the big lunch it will get soon.
The rest before the storm, I guess!

But if you really are feeling pekish and need a pick me up: try this one, a little goes a long way, trust me.

- 1/2 cup of rolled oats
- 1/2 cup of medjool dates
- 1/2 cup of coconut flakes
- 1 tbsp of peanutbutter
- 2 tsp of chia seeds
- 3 tsp of macapowder
- 1 tbsp of raw cacao powder
- 3 tbsp of coconut oil
- pinch of salt
OPTIONAL: orange zest!!

Whip it all together in your food processor and let it turn for about 2 min, untill it looks crumbly. Press the mixture down with a big spoon into a square dish and put to refrigerate for a few hours.
Cut into equals sizes.
